The House Flies are a four-piece dark alternative and post-punk band from Moline, Illinois, featuring Alex Riggen, Burnie Eckhardt, Ozzie Woods, and Nick Pompou. The band began with the ‘Glimmer’ EP before expanding their sound through the full-length ‘Mannequin Deposit’ and singles including ‘Sweet Foxhound’. Their music brings together goth rock, shoegaze, grunge, and melodic guitar music, with a distinctly Midwestern sense of place. ‘Lost Literature’ is the second single from their upcoming album ‘Lions and Ore’, which marks the first full-length release with their current four-piece lineup.

“Dark, melodic, and catchy enough to stay with you.”

‘Lost Literature’ has a really nice sense of movement. The steady drums and melodic bassline give it an easy groove, while the layered guitars keep that darker atmosphere alive. I like how the repeated chorus gives the song a stranger pop pull without taking it too far away from its post-punk identity. The lyrics create a hazy picture through highway nights, a rental car, radio static, and fragmented memories. It feels like driving through the night while old thoughts keep resurfacing. The bass particularly stands out, keeping everything moving beneath the guitars and giving the track a surprisingly groovy vibe. You should listen to this crazy track if you want a different vibe.
