There’s a new drop by Dr. M., a budding self-made artist, and we are here to spill some tea about that. I personally found Dr. M. interesting because he takes almost every part of the creative process himself, from writing and production to programming, mixing, and much of the lyric writing. At 39, his approach feels less like chasing a trend and more like an artist making music from the heart. With a smooth vocal texture and a knack for perfection, he is here to give out some of the most melodic rock tracks because he aspires to make adult metal, which is a combination of adult contemporary and heavy metal popular. ‘Follow Me’ feels like the first real statement of this idea, introducing a project that wants melody and emotional songwriting to sit comfortably beside the heavier side of rock.

“‘Follow Me’ brings together melodic warmth, emotional songwriting, and the heavier edge of rock in a refreshingly personal album.”
‘Follow Me’ really feels like a smooth stepping stone to Dr. M.’s journey, and the first thing that caught my attention was how naturally the melodies pan out. It doesn’t feel like heavy music where you expect all grunge but no emotion. There is a subtle warmth and emotion hiding under the beats, which makes the mood light. Generally, listeners get overwhelmed by the music or production of an album, but here Maria Moon’s vocals take on everything else. You will find different moods between songs, and that keeps the entire collection versatile. ‘Blinded by Love’ brings out the more romantic side of the album, while ‘On the Foggy Way Back Home’ feels like one of the more reflective moments.
There are these little pockets of lighter, more playful tracks like ‘It’s All Music’ and ‘Rock & Roll Fantasy’ that freshen up your mood in between heavy tracks. Even though these songs make for a lighter mood, you cannot ignore the cinematic tracks like ‘Welcome to Babylon’ and ‘Shanghai Night’. Every shift gives a nuance to the album that keeps everything interesting and keeps that anticipating feeling alive. There is something interesting about hearing an artist lean into his own idea instead of worrying about whether it fits neatly into an existing rock category. With every song bringing a slightly different mood, ‘Follow Me’ works best when listened to as a complete album rather than just picking out one or two tracks. I would highly recommend you give it a listen if you want something new to explore.
