There are songs that make you enjoy their music, and then there are songs that make you sit with them and reflect. Listening to “If Love Was The Meal,” by Knox Avery, felt like it belonged to the latter category. Coming through with another release built around a larger social theme, Knox Avery once again shows a willingness to use music as more than just entertainment. What I appreciate about the project is how the focus never drifts away from the message. The fact that not only do Knox Avery’s songs shine a light on important social issues, but also that a portion of the royalties from their tracks go towards fighting global hunger, make the releases feel even more meaningful.

“Few artists are as committed to meaningful storytelling as Knox Avery, whose music consistently looks beyond entertainment.”
Apart from its message, the first thing that stuck with me was the song’s heartbeat-like pace. The rhythm moves gently and steadily, creating a reflective atmosphere that perfectly suits the subject matter. At its core, the song is a meditation on hunger, compassion, and the uncomfortable reality that while the world has enough resources, not everyone has equal access to them. Rather than presenting these ideas in a heavy-handed way, Knox frames them through a simple yet powerful question that encourages listeners to pause and reflect. It’s a smooth listen that doesn’t depend on grand production choices; instead, the strength comes from sincerity. The vocals do a wonderful job of bringing the emotion to the surface, and that makes the central question: “if love was the meal, would we let anyone starve?” feel even more difficult to ignore.
