Adding hints of mystery and a unique sense of creative storytelling to the world of modern indie rock, Sentinel Events is a rising force of quirky energy we need more of in the music world right now. A sound that leans indie and reflective, combining a multitude of themes of our everyday lives, the art project hails from Orlando, Florida, United States. ‘Sentinel Events’ starts with the worst-case scenario in medical terms, we have Garret Janks on vocals and guitar, John Paul Foronda and Zac Raya on piano, synth, bass and vocal harmonies, Doug Charles on drums and percussion. Without any further ado, let’s dive right into it!

We start this journey of Satirical commentary with ‘Comorbidities,, The Game’! Giving instant ‘Slim Shady’ vibes mixed with the satirical narrative of mass media, what better way to start the album? Transitioning into ‘Dinosaur Juice’ in collaboration with the talented Morrison, this track has an indie-rock feel to it that makes you reflect upon your life. It’s mellow, subtle and emotionally raw, making you rethink your life. ‘Bad Radiation’ is a unique take on the sense of addictiveness you feel when you unintentionally fall in love with someone, and then it becomes too hard to get over it. With lovebombing and an irreversible and unstoppable train of thoughts, this deals with the unhealthy obsession with dopamine. On the contrary, we go on a blissful adventure with the ‘Garden of the Gods’. A fun and adventurous track that hits you with a rush of happy hormones, adrenaline and nostalgia all at the same time, this track featuring the beautiful vocals of Elay VanBoer is a true memoir of lasting friendship.

As we step into the second half of the album, we’re hit with ‘Florence Nightingale’, a confession of a nurse becoming one’s emotional anchor as they experience the devastating moments of health horrors. Noticing every tiny detail about what they do and about them, this is an eerie work of art. Then vibrancy hits us like a truck with ‘Sadie Hawkins’, as we delve further into memories while on medical hallucinations. It’s soft and indie, and very catchy. Then we get a dreamy remix by Voidscan of the iconic ‘Cold Planet’, also as a part of this album. Giving the OG track an ariel twist, this is a fine spin from what we heard before. Lastly, we end the album with ‘White Coat Syndrome’, featuring Hesitant Waitress. What feels like the end of all the memories and nostalgia, this brings the paranoia and all the what-ifs of medical procedure come to life. Daunting, emotional and unhinged, there couldn’t have been a better ending to this compilation.

This album is very unique in its ways, and we truly need more of this energy in modern rock.
