- This is such a captivating track! What inspired this release? Tell us everything.
Ans- “International Power” comes from a very personal place for me. Long before music, I spent many years as a CEO working across multiple companies and in different countries. I’ve sat in countless boardrooms and board meetings, navigating complex business environments and the political forces that exist within them. That experience shaped how I see the world — not just in terms of business, but in terms of power, influence, and resilience.
Over time, I’ve learned something about myself: I’m an unstoppable force of nature. People have described me as a phoenix because no matter what challenges or setbacks appear, I rise again — usually stronger than before. That spirit of resilience is a core part of who I am, and it’s deeply embedded in this track.
When I first entered the music industry, it was actually quite intimidating. When my first song, Drunk Texting, was released, I had only been taking vocal and music lessons for about a year. I’ve always been somewhat self-conscious about my voice because we hear our own voices very differently than the way others hear them. At the same time, my lyrics are deeply personal. Even when they are inspired by stories from others or broader human experiences, they still feel like pieces of my heart. Putting that out into the world can make you feel vulnerable.
In the beginning, a lot of the feedback I received from some curators and platforms was overwhelmingly negative. I was told I was off-tune, out of sync, that I needed to stay in one genre, stay in one lane, and follow the traditional rules of musical composition. Some comments weren’t even constructive — just subjective opinions telling me to go back to the drawing board.
But what I eventually realized is that the very thing some people saw as a weakness is actually my strength. I don’t fit neatly into a box, and I’m not meant to. My music reflects that same independence and refusal to conform.
So “International Power” really represents another chapter in my journey — both as a global entrepreneur and now as an artist. It’s about resilience, influence, and the realization that power doesn’t come from fitting into expectations. It comes from embracing who you truly are. At the same time, it also carries the message that influence today is global. Music, ideas, and identity can connect people across borders, and that sense of global connection is also part of what the song represents. - It’s safe to say that the track is as magnetic as your aura! How did you decide to venture into the world of music?
Ans- First of all, I want to say what a beautiful compliment that is. Thank you. I truly appreciate the kindness behind it.
Music has always been a part of who I am. I grew up surrounded by it. My mother was a concert violinist who performed in symphonies and orchestras, so from a very young age I spent time going to performances with her across the state. Sometimes she would perform in churches or smaller venues as well, so music was always present in my environment.
I started playing violin in kindergarten, although I didn’t stay with it very long. After that I moved to piano and later to flute. Music was always around me, but my real passion was always writing and singing. Even in first grade I was writing stories and poems constantly. I remember my teacher telling me I needed to slow down because I was “only in first grade.” It wasn’t criticism — it was just that I didn’t quite fit into the expected box, which looking back is actually pretty funny.
As I grew older, I continued writing poetry and lyrics. Even before I understood how to fully compose music, melodies would come into my head and I would write lyrics to match them. When I was a teenager I took vocal lessons for a couple of years, but I ended up getting a severe case of mono that affected my vocal cords for months. The recovery took so long that I stopped pursuing singing at that time. Being a teenager, life moved in other directions.
As adulthood came along, I focused on building businesses, supporting my family, going to school, and all the responsibilities that come with life. But music never left me. I continued writing songs and lyrics quietly in the background, always thinking that one day I would come back to it.
A couple of years ago, when I finally started taking vocal and music lessons again, I realized something important: I had been missing a major piece of who I am. Music wasn’t just a hobby for me. It was something deeply connected to my purpose.
Interestingly, many of my songs actually come from dreams. I’ve had these kinds of dreams since I was a teenager — dreams where I’m performing on stage singing songs that I’ve written and produced. Sometimes I wake up remembering the words, the rhythm, even parts of the melody. Some of the songs I’ve written came directly from those moments.
For me, stepping into music now wasn’t about starting something new — it was about finally embracing something that had always been part of my soul. - This is a deeply inspiring take on Motivation in Rap. Can you name some artists that have personally inspired & motivated you in your sonic journey?
Ans- There are many artists who have inspired me, especially in rap, not just because of their music but because of their swagger, charisma, confidence, and authenticity. What really draws me to an artist is their ability to pour their heart into what they do — to express their ideas, their feelings, their struggles, and their victories in a way that connects with people on a real level. Artists like Eminem, Tupac, Jay-Z, Kanye West, Cardi B, and Nicki Minaj stand out to me because they bring that kind of powerful presence. Each of them carries a strong identity in their music and isn’t afraid to push boundaries or speak their truth. They combine confidence with storytelling, and they have the ability to reach people emotionally while still commanding the stage.
For me, inspiration comes from artists who aren’t afraid to be bold, who bring their full personality into their work, and who understand that music isn’t just sound — it’s energy, presence, and connection with the audience.
That kind of authenticity is something I always strive to bring into my own music as well. - If your sound could be described as a colour, which one would it be and why?
Ans- I would say black — and not because it represents darkness.
Black actually contains all colors, and that’s the best way I can describe my sound. I’m a very creative individual, and my music reflects that range. If you listen to my work, you’ll notice that I don’t stay confined to one specific lane or predictable style.
My sound pulls from many different influences, emotions, and ideas, so in that sense it’s like every color in the spectrum. You never quite know where I’m going to take it next, and that creative freedom is something that’s very important to me as an artist.
And on top of that, black is also a very classy and sexy color, which adds another layer to it. For me, music is about exploration, expression, and pushing boundaries — and black, as a color that holds everything within it, captures that perfectly. - How is Exzenya’s sound different from Exzenya as an artist, and Exzenya as an individual?
Ans- They’re connected but not identical.
As an individual, I’m constantly observing the world — people, psychology, culture, and stories. As an artist, I translate those observations into themes and narratives.
The sound itself is the emotional vehicle that carries those ideas. Sometimes the music amplifies certain emotions or perspectives that are only a part of who I am as a person. In that way, the sound becomes a larger, more cinematic extension of the artist. - The theme of power deeply resonated with me. What are some other themes you see yourself delving into a few years down the line?
Ans- First of all, hearing that the theme of power resonated with you truly makes my heart happy. Thank you for sharing that with me.
Power is just one layer of what I explore through music. I’m deeply interested in themes around human behavior, resilience, relationships, ambition, identity, and the emotional complexity of life. Those ideas are endless, and they continue to evolve as we grow and experience the world.
The truth is, even I don’t always know what’s going to come next. Creativity can feel a bit like a magician pulling a rabbit out of a hat — sometimes the ideas appear in ways you don’t fully expect. That sense of discovery is part of what makes creating music so exciting for me.
Looking a few years ahead, my hope is that my music becomes even more powerful as I continue learning and navigating the complexities of the craft — especially when it comes to designing sound, composition, and production systems. As my understanding deepens, I believe the music will naturally grow with it.
For me, this journey is about constant evolution — both creatively and personally — and allowing the music to reflect that growth over time.
