Ceili Rain was formed in 1995 by veteran songwriter Bob Halligan Jr. Having envisioned combining Celtic instrumentation with pop-rock since 1989. He received encouragement from his wife ‘Linda’ to pursue his dream. He previously wrote songs for heavy metal bands such as Judas Priest and Blue Oyster Cult. Despite this, he was uncomfortable associating with artists who were perceived negatively. He wrote with Michael Bolton and recorded them with artists like Cher, Kathy Mattea, and Joan Jett. The singer also released a solo album in 1991, which made no impression on the charts. He moved to Nashville in 1995, finding the atmosphere more suited to his needs. Halligan formed Ceili Rain to combine his Celtic influences with solid rock songwriting skills. They honed their skills in concerts before they signed with Punch Records. Many publications, including Billboard, praised the 1997 album for its uplifting spiritual messages, Celtic Rock influences, and solid pop-rock songwriting skills.
