The most recent release from Anton Commissaris, “On Starry Nights,” is a lovely and classic jazz song that transports the listener to a romantic, hopeful dream world. With a vibrant horn section that evokes the era of jazz legends who loved and integrated Latin rhythms into their work, the song’s instrumentation is expertly constructed. It’s challenging to communicate an atmosphere through music without using lyrics, but the saxophone solos are deeply moving, and the piano provides a jazzy backdrop.

With wistful lyrics about personal longing, love, and the peaceful inspiration of nature, the song depicts the tale of a man who finds hope and love in a particular woman. The iconic Van Gogh painting “The Starry Night” served as inspiration for the imagery, while Anton Commissaris added a few photos from his trip in Provence to depict the scene. The listener is taken to an another time and place by the lovely vision the lyrics paint. He effectively juggles vocals and jazz instrumentation, and his voice perfectly complements the latter. The heartfelt keys are so beautifully intertwined into the music that you will find yourself lost in this amazing artist’s exquisite musicality.
