Scotland-based jazz vocalist Luca Manning and pianist/arranger Ryan MacKenzie recently collaborated to produce a stunning new rendition of Robert Burns’ timeless love song “Ae Fond Kiss.” MacKenzie was inspired to create the modern arrangement because he and his fellow Scots musicians wanted to introduce Burn’s most moving song to a wider audience.

The exquisite remake of “Ae Fond Kiss” by Luca Manning and Ryan MacKenzie honors Robert Burns’ well-known love song. The duet manages to produce a hauntingly beautiful interpretation of the song utilizing Manning’s soulful vocals and MacKenzie’s delicate piano playing, staying loyal to the original but giving it a contemporary feel. Manning’s heartfelt performance and genuine interpretation of the lyrics give the song additional depth and meaning, and MacKenzie’s musical arrangements produce a dreamlike mood that perfectly matches Manning’s voice. The end result is a well-executed fusion that seems modern and contemporary while still retaining the essence of the original. Overall, Manning and MacKenzie’s remake of “Ae Fond Kiss” is a stunning tribute to one of Scotland’s greatest poets and a testament to the incredible talent of two rising stars in the Scottish jazz scene.
