Well, brace yourself as TaQsem & Candy JAMZ have released their live-recorded EP, ‘Taste Better Live’. TaQsem & Candy JAMZ is a five-member band from Tuscola, Illinois, brought together through friendships that began at Millikin University and Eastern Illinois University. What I like about the group is that every member brings a different musical background to the table. TaQsem’s Jamaican roots naturally shape his love for reggae, while the rest of the band pulls ideas from funk, jazz, classic rock, blues, gospel, and jam-band culture. The chemistry between them is so evident that, even during a live recording session, the band performs like a unified symphony. If you want to witness this, then keep reading, because ‘Taste Better Live’ is something else.

The EP is full of vibes and energy. Every song has its own taste, and you have to listen to them all with a different perspective. ‘Confessions’ grabbed my attention first because of its relaxed groove and easy-going vibe. You could literally sway your head to TaQsem’s voice, which is full of calm. But honestly, my favourite moment was the guitar solo. It adds energy at just the right time and gives the songs another layer without taking over. I also liked how every instrument gets its own space. You can hear the drum beats one moment and the guitar strings the next. I am a sucker for live music, and when you get to hear something that shines, how can you not admire it? Those little moments, tiny gestures, and imperfections make the entire collection lively. You could literally say the band was having the time of their life just by listening to them.
