With ‘Waking Up In The Night’, V.E.N! continues to stand at par with, and I think even surpass, his previous EP, ‘The Beauty of Danger’. Led by Spanish musician Edu Campoy, V.E.N!, which stands for Virtual Emotions Network, feels like a project that genuinely cares about creating a mood rather than just making songs. The project blends melodic power pop, progressive rock, and alternative influences in a way that feels effortless and personal. There is a warmth in the songwriting that immediately stands out. Even when the lyrics touch on spirituality, freedom, or social realities, the music still feels approachable and emotionally open. Every song feels thoughtfully put together, with collage-inspired visuals and colourful aesthetics fitting naturally into the project’s musical identity. You can hear traces of classic 60s melodies mixed with dreamy alternative rock and post-punk energy, while the project continues to carry a personality of its own.

“A melodic journey where bright guitar-driven sounds meet thoughtful reflections, leaving plenty to discover along the way.”
The EP comprises six tracks that come together to form a larger emotional story, a creative masterpiece V.E.N! is known for. There is a lovely balance between catchy melodies, energetic guitars, and moments that invite you to slow down while still keeping upbeat with the beats. There’s really something about these kinds of EPs that makes them special, especially when you get a contrast between the tracks, but it never feels like you are being transported from one part of the world to another. I really loved the opening track ‘Connection’. Its melodic appeal draws you in, while the introspective side gives the song something to sit with. After a beautiful start, tracks like ‘Break the Compass’, ‘The Scared Animal’, and ‘Crossing the Last Valley’ unfold slowly but grow on you as you progress. There are tracks that remind you to slow down, take a deep breath, and soak in the vibes. The musicality of the EP really amazes me, as it provides an atmospheric feeling, adding layers of instrumentation that feel striking. ‘Waking Up In The Night’ is another lovely step in V.E.N!’s musical journey, and one that deserves a good listen.
