AThe7thGatekeeper’s new EP is worth discovering, and we are here to give you a glimpse of that. Hailing from Barry, South Wales, AThe7thGatekeeper is an independent artist who brings together acoustic rock, alternative rock and a love for honest songwriting. His musical world draws from a wide range of influences, including Dolly Parton, Jason Isbell, Muse and Slipknot, giving his sound an interesting mix of emotion and rock sensibility. Having spent over 30 years playing and singing some of the songs featured in his practice sessions, he has developed a personal connection with the music he chooses to revisit. For this release, he joined forces with acclaimed producer and friend Romesh Dodangoda at Longwave Studios in Cardiff, with the aim of capturing something raw, intimate and true to the way he plays at home.

“A heartfelt collection that strips familiar rock favourites back to their roots, finding beauty in the spaces between every note.”
The result is ‘Time Alone Cannot Heal’, an EP that gives familiar songs a fresh perspective while offering a glimpse into his musical journey ahead of his third album, planned for 2027. ‘Time Alone Cannot Heal’ feels like a familiar rock favourite in the start but progresses with a fresh touch, giving the songs a space to breathe in a more intimate setting. What I enjoy most is how natural the whole EP feels. The musicality of the EP is so flawless that it does so much without even trying to. The guitars and vocals carry the emotion so beautifully without losing the charm of the originals. The reinterpretation of System Of A Down’s ‘Toxicity’ in one of the songs is particularly interesting. The moment I head the song with a raw intensity in a stripped-back setting, it brough out a different side of its character.
The refreshing take on Green Day’s ‘Good Riddance (Time of Your Life)’ is another beautiful track. With its gentle vibes and slower approach, it carries a warmth that makes you want to sit back and take it all in. There’s a reason this song holds such a special place for the artist and his wife. The recording adds to the charm. Captured at Longwave Studios, the EP aims for the feeling of sitting in a room while someone plays and sings just for you. That rawness of all the songs makes the listening experience feel personal. Every track on the collection is a refreshing reminder that a song doesn’t always need a grand arrangement to leave an impression. Sometimes, all it needs is a guitar, a voice and a feeling worth sharing. So hit that play button and get a fresh kick of rock.
