Italian musicians Massimo Donelli and Paolo Rossi recently reunited for ‘Adorati Spiriti’, a concept album inspired by Native American heritage and the changing relationship between tradition and modern society. The two first played together in bands when they were younger, before pursuing careers in journalism and politics. Their shared love of music eventually brought them back together, with each now bringing a different creative strength to the project. Massimo composes the music, which is further developed using AI, while Paolo writes the lyrics and co-produces. His background also includes publishing poetry, and their shared musical language draws particularly from progressive rock, jazz fusion, and world music. Let’s witness both of them work magic in their recent album.

“A richly woven musical journey where tradition, memory, and modernity find common ground.”

There’s something beautiful about the idea behind the album. Rather than treating tradition as something that belongs only to the past, the collection explores how its values can continue to live on in a world that keeps changing. Its story follows Chayton, an elderly Cheyenne man, as he passes his heritage to Tokala, a younger member of his tribe. What I find especially moving about this concept is its gentleness, like music. Chayton doesn’t demand that Tokala abandon modern life. Instead, he encourages him to carry forward the things that give life meaning. That makes the album’s central theme feel relevant far beyond its own setting. Musically, the blend of progressive rock, jazz fusion, and world music gives the project plenty of room to breathe. There’s an intriguing contrast between its contemporary musical construction and the timeless idea at its centre.

‘Nelle orme il canto’ (The Song in the Footsteps) evokes the passing down of memory, while ‘Il cerchio che unisce’ (The Circle That Connects) beautifully reflects the album’s ideas of belonging and unity. ‘Danza su danza’ (Dance upon Dance) hints at movement and continuity. The concept and the storyline behind these tracks are so beautifully crafted. It gives you a proper cinematic rock vibe while you sit and listen to each chapter unfold on its own. The collaboration between Donelli and Rossi brings together musical composition and poetic storytelling. It’s truly an album that draws you into itself and lets you enjoy its musical world. If you want to experience something unique and fresh, you should listen to ‘Adorati Spiriti’.
