ReeToxA recently released ‘Double A Side 2 (Akaroa / Erica And The Stars)’, the latest EP from the Melbourne-based singer-songwriter. After nearly 30 years of songwriting, Jason McKee, the man behind ReeToxA, found the right creative partnership with producer Simon Moro, leading to the development of the project, and since then he has given us some of the craziest songs. ReeToxA’s previous album ‘Soliloquy’ received amazing reviews, and we feel ‘Double A Side 2’ is here to take that one level up.

Listening to this EP, I genuinely felt closer to music. ‘Double A Side 2’, consisting of two songs, ‘Akaroa’ and ‘Erica And The Stars’, carries a mysterious yet soulful vibe, which is very rare to find. ‘Akaroa’ has that mysterious, emotional atmosphere, inspired by a vivid dream during one of the hardest periods of McKee’s life. Years later, visiting Akaroa in New Zealand brought the song back to him, and today we have a masterpiece to cherish. ‘Erica And The Stars’ hits differently. It grew from another extremely difficult chapter and became a form of creative escape and hope for the artist. Simon Moro handling the production, mixing, and mastering, alongside Terry Hart on piano and the experienced band lineup, is the icing on the cake to Jason’s performance. I particularly like the ambition behind the arrangement here. The Budapest Orchestra recreates the orchestral music McKee heard in his mind, giving the track a much larger emotional canvas.
