London-based artist Skar de Line has released his latest track, ‘Personal Martyr,’ and it feels like a chapter straight out of his personal diary. Driven by the philosophy, “I have not sacrificed so much of my life to stay away now,” as quoted by Skar de Line, he really puts his all into every release. His sound is driven by pop, hip-hop, and electronic rock, curating cinematic soundtracks that are heavy on commercial hooks and lyrics that ask more questions than they answer. What I love about him is that he handles every aspect of his music, from writing and producing to directing his music videos. He truly takes a DIY approach, and that gives a personal touch.

Skar de Line sits against a rusted industrial machine in a barren field, wearing a cream shirt with theatrical cuts and bruises on his face and hands.

“In Skar de Line’s world, even shadows and silence speak the language of the soul.”

I was deeply taken aback when I first heard, ‘Personal Martyr.’ It’s a reflection of confronting the pain we often bury inside. It’s a song where silence and quietness speak much more than the musicality does, yet you find yourself connected to every lyric. The track feels like a lingering thought trapped inside your head, yet a liberated soul searching for answers in the thin air. More than the music, I am eagerly waiting for the music video, filmed by Skar alone in the stark landscapes of Dungeness, as it feels like the perfect visual extension of the song. If you enjoy music that makes you pause, reflect, and feel, ‘Personal Martyr’ is one you shouldn’t miss.
