Emily Dickinson’s beautiful quote, “Find ecstasy in life; the mere sense of living is joy enough,” is a timeless invitation to find wonder in the present moment, and Anne Vanschothorst echoes that sentiment beautifully in her latest creation, “RIFF.” Long before the track begins unfolding its quiet magic, Anne has already built a creative world where music, poetry, nature, and visual art gently blur into one another. Listening to her work, I am reminded that she doesn’t approach sound like a conventional composer; she approaches it like someone tracking invisible shapes in the air. The way she plays the harp feels like a companion in exploration, guiding her through landscapes of imagination, silence, and curiosity.

“A painting that mesmerizes you, a sound that invites you to wander through landscapes of imagination, that’s Anne Vanschothorst for you.”

This exact quality of Vanschothorst is reflected in her latest track. “RIFF” is a piece inspired by Bob Gramsma’s land art monument of the same name, and from the very first moment, it feels like a composition wrapped in the beautiful landscape of nature. The acoustic harp drifts through subtle electronics and delicate harmonic movement, creating an atmosphere that feels suspended between memory and imagination. What I loved most while listening was the patience of it all. Every note seems content to linger, allowing space for reflection and wonder. It leaves behind a feeling, a gentle reminder that sometimes the greatest beauty is found in simply being present.
