Singapore-based singer-songwriter Seema Farswani has released her latest song, “Evolved,” and it is one of the most honest storytelling songs I have heard in a while. Seema’s music feels dynamic because her background across different cultures and genres quietly finds its way into the music. There’s a visual quality to her songwriting that probably comes from her work as a designer; even without seeing anything, the songs paint pictures. Having followed releases like “Got My Mojo,” “Under A Blazing Sun,” and “Sketches on the Walls,” it feels like “Evolved” reveals a more reflective and emotionally exposed side of her artistry.

From the opening moments, ‘Evolved” feels like walking through a quiet storm where uncertainty and hope exist in the same breath. The production creates a beautiful sense of space, allowing every emotion to linger rather than rushing into the next moment. Seema’s vocal delivery feels incredibly intimate, almost like pages from a personal journal being read aloud. I really loved the contrast between vulnerability and strength. It runs through the entire track, making the message feel relatable rather than realistic. Rish’s guitar work becomes one of the song’s emotional anchors, gently building tension before releasing it in waves. More than anything, “Evolved” feels like a companion for anyone standing at a crossroads, unsure of what’s ahead but willing to keep moving forward.
We also caught up with the artist for a heartfelt conversation about the stories behind “Evolved,” the experiences that have shaped her music, and what’s coming next. Here’s how the conversation went.
- You’ve lived across Dubai, Chicago, and Singapore while balancing music and interior design. Looking back, what experiences have shaped the artist and storyteller you’ve become today?
Reflecting back, I would say the biggest influence has been the learning, languages, cultures, and emotions I’ve absorbed from every place I’ve lived. Each city has left something with me—whether it was a sound, a memory, a rhythm, or a way of seeing the world—and I often notice those influences finding their way into my songwriting.
Design has also shaped me deeply. As an interior designer, I’ve always told stories visually—through spaces, textures, colours, and moods. Music feels like another extension of that same storytelling. One allows me to create a world you can see, and the other allows me to create a world you can feel.
2. “Evolved” speaks about growth in a way that feels honest rather than perfect. What inspired you to tell this story at this stage of your life?
“Evolved” was built from a very honest place. I started noticing how often people around me—both young and old—were speaking about changing relationships, emotional shifts, and the quiet strength it takes to move through different phases of life.
That stayed with me. The song became less about a perfect version of growth and more about the real, human side of it—the hurt, the reflection, the letting go, and the emotional release that comes when you finally begin to understand yourself better.
3. The song has a beautifully cinematic feel, with Rish’s guitars and backing vocals adding so much emotion. What was your creative process like while bringing this sound to life together?
The creative process for “Evolved” was very instinctive and emotionally driven. I had the concept, the story, the lyrics, the composition, the creative production vision, and the visual world of the song quite clearly in my mind. I knew I wanted it to feel expansive—almost like a scene unfolding, with emotion, movement, and release.
Rish brought a beautiful depth to the track through his guitars, backing vocals, and musical sensitivity. His parts added a lot of texture and emotion, helping the song move from something intimate into something more cinematic. There was a strong sense of trust in the process—letting the song breathe, allowing each layer to serve the story, and not overcomplicating what the emotion was trying to say.
For me, collaboration works best when everyone brings their own truth to the music while still protecting the heart of the song. That’s what made “Evolved” special.
4. The French phrases add a unique emotional touch to “Evolved.” What made you include them, and what did they bring to the song emotionally?
The French phrases came very naturally. I’ve always been drawn to languages and how they carry emotion differently. Sometimes a phrase in another language can express something with a softness, vulnerability, or intimacy that feels slightly different from English.
In “Evolved,” the phrases “Je suis vivante” and “Je suis déchirée” mean “I’m alive” and “I’m torn.” Emotionally, they captured two sides of the song for me—the strength of still feeling alive and the vulnerability of feeling torn by what you’ve had to move through.
French brought a cinematic and intimate layer to the song. For me, it almost felt like an inner voice, something whispered, felt, and remembered. It gave the track a more global emotional texture, which naturally reflects who I am as an artist.
5. Your music blends influences from pop, rock, blues, soul, and global sounds so naturally. Do you consciously mix genres, or do you simply let the story guide the music?
A melody comes to mind, and then I start crafting the lyrics around the emotion it carries. I don’t always consciously decide on a genre at the beginning—the story tends to guide the sound.
Sometimes, almost unknowingly, I find myself leaning into a different language, rhythm, or musical influence. I think that comes from my own eclectic style, my multicultural experiences, and also my background in design. Design has taught me to layer elements with intention, and I think I approach music in a similar way—through mood, colour, contrast, and emotion.
6. “Evolved” feels like the beginning of a new chapter. What can listeners look forward to next, whether it’s new music, collaborations, or live performances?
“Evolved” is part of a larger body of work from my second album, which is currently in production. The singles I’m releasing are all connected to that evolving chapter.
Yes, there’s definitely more music in the pipeline and in the works. I’m always inspired by new sounds, new artists, and collaborators who leave their own imprint on the creative process. I’m looking forward to sharing more music that reflects where I am now—as a songwriter, vocalist, and storyteller—while continuing to explore new emotional and sonic spaces.
