The House Flies Continue Their Gothic Evolution with Their Latest, “Sweet Foxhound”

The House Flies have been building something special in the Midwest’s underground scene. Since dropping their Glimmer EP in 2023, this gothic post-punk band has shown a knack for creating music that hits you right in the chest.

“Where midnight conversations turn into three-day silences, and memory becomes both comfort and curse.”

Their latest track, “Sweet Foxhound,” picks up where Mannequin Deposit left off, but with a sharper edge and clearer vision. Originally sketched out during those album sessions, the song has been reworked with their expanded lineup, and the difference shows. The track opens with layers of guitar that feel like fog rolling in, while the bass keeps everything anchored and moving forward. There’s something almost hypnotic about how the whole song builds up, with vocals that drift over the top like someone telling secrets in a crowded room. It’s dark without being too eerie.

The lyrics deal with separation and regret, painting sketches of underground hideouts and shoreline meetings. The House Flies have always been good at capturing that restless energy that comes with growing up and growing apart, and “Sweet Foxhound” might be their best example yet. As they work on their next full-length album, “Sweet Foxhound” serves as a promising preview of what’s to come.

If you’ve been sleeping on The House Flies, consider this track as your first impression of them.
