“The longest trips aren’t measured in miles, but in months of waiting.”

Whybrow’s latest release, “Amnesia,” actually started as a Bollywood-inspired track, the one that got her into the songwriting competition. But Emma took that foundation and completely reimagined it as an electronic piece, which shows her willingness to experiment and push her sound in different directions. The song comes from Emma’s experience during COVID when her boyfriend decided he needed to attend a family event in India. What was supposed to be a trip turned into a 15-month absence, and when he finally came back, he acted like nothing had happened.

The song shows the reality of how relationships and people change, how something can start as one thing and end up something completely different. Emma didn’t just change genres; she used the genre change to tell part of her story. “Amnesia” works because it deals with something many people can relate to: being taken for granted by someone who thinks they can just waltz back into your life without consequences. Emma’s approach is refreshingly direct.

“Amnesia” proves that good electronic music doesn’t have to be all style and no substance.
