Fitkinwall Takes us Through a Journey of Longing and Change With Uist.

When not working solo, Ruth Wall and Graham Fitkin are “Fitkinwall”, a dynamic duo that takes the listeners through serene soundscapes with the use of harps and electro music. Ruth Wall, a talent house plays with a wide range of harps- Gaelic Wire-strung, Bray, Concert, and Electro Harps. Graham Fitkin produces electronic music with the use of software like Ableton, FX modules, and Moog Voyager. The strength of the duo lies in their ability to meld ancient Gaelic music with new sounds to create a sonic experience that is out of the world and lingers on to the audience like an afterthought. After two successful albums “Still Warm” and “Lost”, Fitkinwall puts out another musical masterpiece “UIST”. Having toured the UK in 2024, Fitkinwall is ready to tour mainland Europe in 2025 with “UIST”.

“Uist evokes deep emotions with intricate melodies taking the listener into a universe of both serene and eerie soundscapes at the same time and breathtaking sonic scenery with the masterpiece UIST.”

Fitkinwall, through their undeniable music, has made “UIST” to speak the unspoken about the eviction and migration of Scottish farmers from the highlands during the Clearances. I have never experienced anything like “UIST” in my life and I am not exaggerating. Music like this is made once a decade. The brilliance of Fitkinwall is at display with “Uist” where the craftsmanship shines in their ability to use electro with Gaelic melodies, resulting in melodies that transcend the physical realm and hit your soul. The composition is so precise and has room to soak in the music, which is much required given the grandiose of the soundscapes and the heaviness of emotions it leaves you with. Each song transitioning into the other elevates the experience of the listeners and sends them into a trance state. The use of harps throughout the album is magical and leaves you in a state of wonderment like that of a kid. At one point in time, you feel one with the music, and nothing but the music exists in the listener’s perception of reality. This once-in-a-lifetime musical experience should not be missed, so we suggest all our readers go listen to this sonic revolution right now.
