Stephanie Phillips has been singing, playing guitar, and writing songs since she was very little. In her own words, her music is “progressive folk,” and it takes listeners on an emotional journey through themes of love, sorrow, and the ups and downs of everyday life.

“”Retrospective” is a substantial offering that provides a look into the vitality and enthusiasm of youth.”
“Retrospective,” is a compilation of songs that Stephanie Phillips initially recorded in 1993 but never made public. First track “Tell Me Something” is a wonderful, soulful affair with Stephanie’s melodies narrating a narrative and a soothing guitar accompanying her at every step. Second is “The Piece That Fits,” a mellow tune with melancholy undertones about how she regrets missing the sunlight the moment it arrives. The third tune on “Retrospective,” “It Doesn’t Matter,” is an expansion on the ideas she introduced in the previous two songs—a bolder confession to a loved one. “The Real Meaning of Life” is a standout track that beautifully depicts the power of love and friendship in the face of adversity and serves as a metaphor for the album’s central topic. The guitar work in “You and I” is lively and full of energy, and the song’s upbeat tone and positive message struck a chord with me.
The production of “Retrospective” is mostly dependent on the guitar and Stephanie’s vocals, which work together to create pleasant harmonies and melodies. Catch the muse down here:
