“Powersuit” by Rachel D is When the DJ Becomes the Main Act

This New Zealand artist, Rachel D, has been in the trenches, running sound boards, spinning records, and holding down club nights for years. Then life happened. Eight years of travelling, raising two daughters, and basically hitting pause on the whole creative thing. But she only came back sharper. Now she’s juggling her club nights ‘ClubVideotech’ and ‘Diamond Buffalo’, mentoring other artists, and oh yeah! launching her own label, Mama’s Crib Records.

“What starts as a sketch sometimes becomes a masterpiece.”

“Powersuit” is her debut solo track on that new label. The track sits somewhere between early 2000s electro-clash and modern bass house, with these subtle hints of post-punk bands like Joy Division and The Cure lurking in the background. It’s not trying too hard to be retro or futuristic, but it just exists in its own lane. The groove is stripped back, and the lyrics celebrate women hyping up other women on the dancefloor. Rachel’s years as a sound engineer shine through in the mix.

She’s got big plans for 2026 with more house and garage tracks, some indie dance experiments, beats for MCs and reggae artists. “Powersuit” makes you want to hear all of it. Give “Powersuit” a spin. Something tells me this is just the warmup.
