Tomonori’s “Lantern” Illuminates a Path Through Dreamlike Depths

Japanese-Irish artist Tomonori has been building something interesting in Dublin’s music scene. He’s played intimate shows around Dublin, released his debut album “Immense Dwelling”, and teamed up with French platinum producer YDTHXGRT. Now with his latest album “Hypernonchalant” on the way, Tomonori’s doing what he does best: wrapping serious themes about trauma and modern life in genuinely catchy, slightly left-of-center pop songs.

“A luminous descent into the parts of yourself you’ve been avoiding.”

Enter “Lantern,” the first taste of what’s coming. Co-produced with YDTHXGRT, the track is an infectious blend of Afropop grooves, indie charm, and electronic experimentation. It’s the kind of song that gets under your skin quickly, rhythmically compelling enough to move to, but weird enough to keep you interested. Tomonori’s vocals drift through imagery of being underwater, pink noise flickering in slow motion, dancing with deep-sea creatures.

“Lantern” explores that feeling of being perpetually submerged mentally and emotionally while still searching for moments of lightness and spontaneity. If this is how Tomonori’s kicking off the Hypernonchalant campaign, consider interest piqued. “Lantern” suggests an artist who’s found his voice and knows exactly how to use it. Press play and let yourself drift for a bit.
