Audren’s “When Freedom Dies” Channels Inner Rebellion Into Mesmerizing Indie Rock Anthem

Audren is a best-selling novelist who moonlights as what she calls a “good witch.” She comes from a background where music is genuinely a family affair in her household. She works alongside her partner Chris Rime, who handles guitar and production, while their daughters Sydney and Jemily bring piano and bass to the mix.

“The calm before the question we’re all afraid to ask.”

“When Freedom Dies” is the third taste of that album, and it hits differently than you’d expect from a protest song. Audren invites you into a mountain forest and whispers her concerns. The bass work is particularly impressive, adding this improvisational quality that keeps things interesting.

The bridge demands answers: “Tell me where is freedom!” It’s the moment where the calm cracks open and calls out the reality of being constantly watched, filmed, and told what we can and can’t say. The production consists of a guitar solo and a choir arrangement that nods to Pink Floyd. “When Freedom Dies” refuses to pick a conventional political lane. Audren’s is merely reminding us that our inner wisdom matters more than whatever “they” are selling.

If this is what we can expect from her upcoming album, “Think Freedom”, count us intrigued. Queue it up!
