CAR287’s “Opening Song” Captures the Thrill of Breaking Free

CAR287, a Winnipeg rock band that’s been grinding since 2014, paying their dues the old-fashioned way. Jay Yarmey, Travis Wog, Terry Ferguson, and their current drummer, Ryan, started in a basement doing covers.

“When months stretch into years, rock and roll becomes the escape velocity.”

“Opening Song” kicks off the album with exactly the kind of energy you’d want from a band ready to prove something. Recorded at Private Ear Recording with Derek Benjamin, the track is built on acoustic guitar foundations, punchy bass work, and keys that add. The song captures that feeling of being stuck in a comfortable but limiting space, counting down the days until you finally make your move.

The lyrics nail that moment when you decide staying safe is actually scarier than taking the risk. They’re literally doing what the song describes: leaving behind the safety of cover gigs to stake their claim as original artists.

CAR287 is making their statement with this one: they’re ready to play in the big leagues, and they’ve got the chops to back it up. If you want something that just rocks without the pretense, give this a spin. Canadian rock fans, especially, should be paying attention. Hit play and find out what they’re talking about.
