Dark Matter, Robertson’s newest album, set to release on October 31, is probably her most vulnerable work yet. written after her diagnosis of being on the Autism Spectrum. The shock and the pressure that comes with this disorder is enough to make the strongest crumble into a shell of themselves, but not Jessi. She set out on a journey to rediscover herself. This album is the result of her journey, the result of her struggle to make herself whole again. The album stands apart from her previous works as her entire style is reconstructed from the ground up, with all instruments handled by Robertson herself. The themes of identity and masking are challenged through lyrics that reference black holes, quantum entanglement as metaphors for alienation, and the search for belonging.

Releasing Dark Matter is an act of reclamation, to reclaim her creative voice and her lost self, a bold step toward authentic expression of one’s self. Robertson’s willingness to embrace her vulnerabilities and imperfections has opened the gates to a brand new chapter in her life. Her music has undergone a change, becoming deeply imaginative and extremely personal, and will continue to change.
