“SHIFT” by Amara Fe’s 24-Track Gamble That Actually Pays Off

The Mission-based musician Amara Fe comes from serious musical stock, and we’re talking uncles Eugene and Rene, who were making waves in Tulsa, Oklahoma studios, and a grandmother who wrote for Minnie Riperton. So when Amara Fe decided to step into the spotlight with her debut original album “Reborn,” she wasn’t exactly starting from scratch.

“Amara Fe didn’t just make an album. She built a world in twenty-four chapters and invited everyone in.”

Let’s address the elephant in the room: 24 songs. Twenty-four. In an age where most artists give us eight tracks and call it an album, Amara Fe said, “hold my coffee,” and delivered a full-blown marathon. The artist herself calls it an album “made for every ear,” and she’s not overselling. It’s impressive how Amara Fe managed to genre-hop without making the album feel like a Frankenstein’s monster of styles.

Amara Fe describes “SHIFT” as “pure energy, fun, life, excitement,” and she wasn’t lying. By all logic, we should be exhausted by track 15, ready to tap out and call it a day. But the pacing works. The variety works. It’s like she understood the assignment was impossible and did it anyway. The album also works as a proper introduction to who Amara Fe is as an artist. By the time you finish all 24 tracks, you have a pretty complete picture of her range, especially in standout tracks like “Eyes on Me” and “Love Loyal.” Some artists take three albums to show you this much. She did it in one ambitious swing. That’s either confidence or beautiful madness, possibly both.

Nothing with 24 tracks is going to land every single moment for every single listener. But what it does exceptionally well is create an experience that feels generous. So yeah, “SHIFT” is a lot. But it’s a good lot. The kind of lot that reminds you albums can still be exciting, that pop music can still surprise you, and that sometimes the best way forward is to just go all in. Amara Fe went all in, and the result is something genuinely worth your time.
