Led by songwriter and producer Savage, Gothic Aesthetic is doing metal really, really well. Think Type O Negative meets Moonspell, but with a stronger focus on storytelling and cinematic atmosphere. Every track on their debut album “Tales of the Dark Forest” works like a chapter in a book, complete with cursed brides, haunted forests, and vengeful spirits. The vocals are purely male and dramatic throughout.

“Gothic metal that bleeds poetry instead of screaming it.”
“Tales of the Dark Forest” spans ten tracks that blend alt-rock and death metal into something that feels both heavy and hauntingly beautiful. The album opens with “Witch,” a dark invocation that sets the stage with thunder, whispers, and the promise of vengeance. “The Raven” follows with a Poe-inspired anthem where symphonic layers clash with rock while holding onto that core gothic feel.
Moving deeper into the album, “Cursed Forest” and “Iron Mask” show Gothic Aesthetics’ range. “Blood of the Moon” takes things in a more ritualistic direction, balancing ethereal vocals against distorted guitars. The album reaches its peak with “The Marionette” and “Bride of Shadows.” These tracks showcase what makes the Gothic Aesthetic special.
“The Marionette” explores topics of control and lost identity with genuinely unsettling vocals, while “Bride of Shadows” delivers a ceremonial ballad that’s somehow romantic and eerie at the same time. This is followed by “The Damned King,” which brings brutal energy back into the mix with dramatic vocals and guitar work that tells its story of madness and power.
“Gothic Feast” injects some unexpected fun into the proceedings. It’s got that horror-punk energy with skeletons and midnight celebrations that feel twisted but genuinely entertaining. It’s a clever move before “Final Bell” closes everything out. The final track brings together choirs, bells, and echoes of earlier moments to create a proper ending to the album.
“Tales of the Dark Forest” is a strong debut that establishes the Gothic Aesthetic with clear vision and the skills to execute it. Perfect timing to dive into this one with fall setting in.
