Daph Veil is the solo project of Paula Laubach, an Austin-based musician who blends genres in ways that feel fresh rather than forced. Her approach to music is exploratory, pulling from alt-rock, shoegaze, electronic, and blues without getting too precious about any single style. For her newest track, she teamed up with producer Matt Parmenter at Ice Cream Factory Studio, drummer Joe Valadez, and lyricist Rebecca Price.

“The sweetest poison always goes down smooth before it tears you apart.”
Her single, “Bloodsucker”, might be her most visceral release yet. The song starts with a blues-inspired guitar riff that feels almost inviting, drawing you in with a deceptive smoothness. But that calm doesn’t last long. As the track builds, it transforms into something chaotic and explosive, matching the emotional arc of a relationship that starts sweet but turns destructive. Valadez’s drumming becomes increasingly unhinged as things progress, while layered vocals create this tension between what we show the world and what’s actually happening underneath.
If you’re into artists who take risks and aren’t afraid to get messy with their sound, “Bloodsucker” deserves a spot on your playlist.
