Ava Valianti’s “Clean My Room” Is a Brutally Honest Look at Teen Mental Health

The Massachusetts singer-songwriter, Ava Valianti, has been making waves in the indie pop scene since her 2023 debut “bubble wrap,” and she’s doing it by writing about the things most people try to hide. Her previous singles like “Middle Ground,” “January,” and “Buttercups” have shown us an artist who doesn’t shy away from addressing the messy reality of teenage life.

“Growing pains don’t always show. Sometimes they just pile up on the floor.”

In “Clean My Room,” Valianti turns a messy bedroom into a metaphor for not doing great emotionally, capturing that specific moment when simple tasks feel impossible and you’re just trying to make it through the day. “This song came from a really personal place,” Valianti says. “It’s about the pressure to keep it together when you feel like you’re coming undone. It’s messy and emotional and honest, just like life feels sometimes.” She sits with the discomfort and the pain, which paradoxically makes the song feel hopeful because sometimes acknowledging the struggle is the first step.

As Valianti gears up to release her debut EP this fall, give “Clean My Room” a listen and let Ava Valianti remind you that it’s okay to not be okay and that you’re definitely not alone in the mess.
