We had the privilege of asking TaniA some deeply emotional questions; the answers were beautiful:

Q. You talk about self-love in “I Am Good Enough” and how you have struggled with it, what experience changed your perspective on this?

TaniA: After years of verbal abuse from others, that caused me to have low self-esteem. I finally got real with myself while applying my makeup in the mirror, and it hit me: why am I wasting my life on these hurtful lies? God doesn’t make mistakes, and I’m beautiful just as I am. I am kind. I love everyone, I’m smart. And I have been blessed with this wonderful gift of music. And I have a lot in me that I still have to share with the world. My life does matter, I matter. And that’s not me being arrogant, it’s me saying: It’s time for me to acknowledge all this and set myself free. I do deserve to be happy. And that’s how my song was birthed. I wanted others to have that go-to song that would inspire them to shine and that it’s more than okay to love yourself enough to do that.

Q. What was creating this song with Rynellton as a couple like?

TaniA: My husband and I have always had this beautiful spiritual connection since day one, that goes even deeper than our music. That’s why we are able to do what we do. Our chemistry is so powerful between us, that I often find myself brought to tears when we create music together. I feel his soul when he plays, and he feels mine when I sing. It’s as if we are syncing with each other’s minds. I can just sing one line, and he already knows what I want musically. It’s incredible with every song we create together to be honest. But definitely with “I AM Good Enough” it hits differently given the meaning behind my song. We have both experienced low self-worth in our lives and to be able to create and record a powerful song together like this that will help others find themselves again, is just so beautiful and a blessing. God brought me and my husband together for a reason. And through our gift of music, all we want to do is uplift and inspire other’s for many generations to come. Music that will last forever in people’s hearts.

Q. I believe self-love is a continuous process rather than one time change, how do you manage to stay in that mindset?

TaniA: I agree with you on that. Old habits die hard. And giving that every waking day in life comes with its own challenges for us all, in one way or another. As people, we all must remember that we are more than just flesh, blood and bone; we are a spirit. Happiness starts from deep within. When our soul is unhappy it effects the natural balance in our mind, body and soul. I personally suffer with multiple autoimmune illnesses, heart issues as well as nerve damage now from many infections and medications. And the moment I get emotional stress, I start flaring up badly. So it’s important to look at loving ourselves as a daily commitment. Our mental health is very important. And once we acknowledge what our triggers are, even if it’s people we love, we must be true to ourselves and upfront with others to protect our mind, body and soul. Once we break free, we must work even harder to not allow ourselves to become trapped in our mental prison ever again. We have the inner power to achieve anything, and it all starts in the mind. Happy mind, happy soul. I personally make sure I pray often. My faith has been my saving grace from abuse from others, as well as my health and other life battles. God helps keep me centered. I forgive people who have caused me heartache, because I refuse to be suspected to their bitterness. So I pray for them to find themselves. Because hurt and lost people will hurt people, unfortunately. It’s important to also remember that once we find the light, we must be that light for others who are lost in their own darkness. I also love animals. I’ve always had a strong, beautiful bond with them, especially horses. Spending quiet time with animals brings peace to my soul. I also love fitness, swimming, gym, yoga, long walks in the countryside. And, of course, for me, music is a huge part of my emotional growth throughout my life. We all have to find what works for us to keep us centered. And it’s okay to cry, it’s okay to not be okay. What’s important is we don’t stay down for long and that we never stop trying to brush ourselves off and get back up again. Because we are good enough, we all deserve to be happy. And it all starts with learning to love ourselves first.

Q. “I Am Good Enough” is the 4th single from your album “Free-Spirited”, how does it fit into the album and how it ties everything together?

TaniA: It’s been amazing, writing and recording FREE-SPIRITED. I am grateful to be able to work with my incredibly talented husband on this, and I’m thankful to our talented friend Jamaal Davis, who has been so kind in supporting us with being able to record the music files, and get them to me while my husband Rynellton, is away from me in the states. My album FREE-SPIRITED is a form of expression, as well as an appreciation for genres of music that have inspired me since I was a child. It’s a musical journey that will show different layers of me as a singer and a songwriter, as well as my husband as a songwriter and record producer. Another way I can describe “Free-Spirited” is that it’s going to feel like having a pick a mixed jar of goodies!! Lol … Expect the unexpected. And I can’t wait to finally share my album with you all. It’s been such an incredible new chapter in my life musically. On that note, I also can’t wait to release my first album again, “Why Chapter One,” this year! It will be titled, “Why Chapter One – Rebirthed.” It will include unheard songs that didn’t originally make the first release. And remake versions of some of my more popular releases from the album, like “Lie With Me,” “Handle With Care,” “My Hero” and “RARE”. I wanted to give my fans a year filled with music that will last them a lifetime as a thank you for their love and support. I can’t wait for all we have created to be birthed into the world for you all to enjoy.

Q. What key wisdom do you want your listeners who struggle with self-worth take from this song?

TaniA: Every day you wake up, go to the mirror and tell yourself I am worthy of love. I am not the lies other’s, or I have told myself. I can be and do anything I put my mind to. And remind yourself this, for the beautiful souls in your life who do love you and want only the best for you in life, if they can see greatness in you, shouldn’t you too? And if you feel yourself slipping back into that negative energy. Please tell the loved ones in your life that you are struggling, and that you just need that gentle reminder, and a helping hand to pull you back into a positive place again. There is no shame in having moments of weakness, it’s what makes us all human. Like my song says, nobody’s perfect. And if you have faith, please talk to God. He loves you and wants you to feel like you can turn to him anytime, day or night. I also hope my song can be the positive voice that sticks in your head to remind you that you are good enough. Play it as often as you need so you can feel stronger each day. Life is all about living. Love who you are, because you are special and there will never be another you.
