Doron Karavani – Time to Rise: Shows how music can sound like the feeling of love
Doron Karavani

Apart from music, Doron Karavani is also a chef and the founder/ex-owner of the Eastern Mediterranean chain of kitchens called Fafas. Doron Karavani goes by the belief that it is important to bring in new flavours in music just like cooking. Music for Doron has been an outlet of emotions that allows him to lay bare his feelings with melodies and rhythms. His themes revolve around introspection and understanding the emotions that emerge in various situations of life. Essentially, music is a way of dealing with stress. Doron was born in Yamen but eventually, his family moved to Israel where his musical interest bloomed. He got introduced to the guitar and learned how to play it and sing after his brother started taking guitar lessons. Later in life, Doron found his inclination towards the herb and decided to go to India on the hippie trail. This trip introduced him to a whole new life and a lot of inspiration. With his varied life experiences and his curiosity to learn, Doron has captured influences from various styles of music like Jewish, Arabian, African, Indian, Greek and Turkish, which he presents to the audience in his natural, lived-in voice.

“Time to Rise is a project that depicts raw and real emotions. The words soothe the soul and the music brings back the memories from the past.”

When I played the album, the first song itself caught me in my feels. It is called ‘Sky High’ and talks about the emotions we go through after rejection. The crippling feeling of not being enough is well depicted in the track. The use of acoustic guitars, beautiful keys and wind instruments create a thick and holistic sound to start the album with. I will let you experience the rest of the album yourself and would love to know your favourite songs in the comments.

Doron’s captivating voice in the album stood out for me. The way he seamlessly changes his pitch and cadence is incredible to listen to. He has a very natural vocal style and that connects with the audience due to its authenticity and impact. The songs in the album are intensely personal for the artist as he lays bare his emotions for us to understand and relate to.
