Saves the Witch - Fine Machines

Saves the Witch is a brainchild of musician Eric Maynes from NC, United States. He is the one man that arranges, performs, and produces all the tracks. Eric created this idea during the time of the COVID-19 pandemic. After years of indulgence in folk acoustic music, Eric decided to transition from the old sound to a genre-blending instrumentals project that performs with the aim of encouraging unity and acceptance. The artist believes that we humans share a connection despite the differences that we might notice on the surface level. Quoting Eric- “We all exist, and because of that we’re all connected. In many ways, music is that great connector.” STW draws inspiration from amazing acts like Coheed and Cambria, Sleep Token, Covet, This Will Destroy You, We Lost the Sea, and God is an Astronaut.

“An instrumental project that introduces us to a fresh landscape of sonics and allows us to embrace the interconnectedness with our fellow human beings and the environment we thrive in.”

‘Fine Machines’ is a multi-genre instrumental album created entirely in Southport, North Carolina that will take you on a ride. The vastness of the album ranges from Post-Metal to Lo-fi Study/Art Rock. The track list can essentially be divided into two halves- the first half goes hard and will turn you up and fill you with extreme energy; on the other hand, the second half of the album is more laidback and gives you a place to think and explore your thoughts. In my opinion, the first half is apt for the gym and the second half would be great for Yoga and Studying.

This project is Save the Withes’ debut album and Eric Maynes has made sure to showcase his musical prowess through this album. His ability to fuse genres seamlessly and create a whole new sound is phenomenal. With such vast influences, the album will keep you hooked throughout and feed your musical brain if you are someone who enjoys variety.

The album has the best of both worlds. Energy-filled and attention-grabbing tracks like ‘She Dances With Knives’ explore the deep, intense notes and present the musician’s concept on a rock canvas; and more calm/atmospheric tracks like ‘Once Upon A Bomb Shelter’ that kindle thought and introspection, make the album a full package.
