Cornelius Eady Trio comprises of three members as the name suggests- Cornelius Eady, Vocals; Charlie Rauh, Electric and Acoustic Guitars, Electric Bass and Percussion, and Lisa Liu, Electric and Acoustic Guitars and Keyboards. The members used to be a part of the NYC based band called ‘Rough Magic’ and when the band split up, these musicians stayed together to continue creating music. The band’s main areas of expertise are- Folk, Americana, Folk Rock, and Funk. Their songs are heavy on poetry as well. Cornelius Eady is the lead vocalist of the band and has a voice that can mesmerize anyone. The trio has made appearances in notable events like The Big Ears Festival, The Brooklyn Folk Festival, Piccolo Spoleto, The PBS Newshour, Yale University, and The New Orleans Poetry Festival. They had released an EP called Withstand last year which gained much appreciation from all over the world. The short and sweet EP defines the trio’s musical platter and presents to you a landscape of unique and mesmerizing sounds.

“Eady’s husky vocal texture and beautiful instrumental work in the album ‘Painting’ is phenomenal. The whole album is a treat for the ears as it will calm your nerves down.”
Painting is a full length album which has songs that have a deep story. The stories are inspired by real life events and happening and are conveyed in a fictional light. The songs a minimalist as they do not have fancy synth sounds and drums programmed to sound exactly how they do. However, the real, raw essence of each song is tried to be captured through the band’s sonics.
One of my favorite songs from the album is ‘The Unworried Life”. It is a very slow and soothing vibe. It starts off with some really smooth sounding guitars and then comes Eady with his impactful voice. The Keys add in and play in a very repetitive rhythm almost sounding like they are responding to what Eady just sang. Later in the song, you will also find a Key solo section. You won’t able to resist the urge to nod your head on this solo as the artist smoothly glides through the notes.
Overall, the album is an easy to listen one but will have a lasting impact on the listeners. Each song is a journey which proceeds you to the next one and the next one. You can never get enough of the Trio’s music.
