Les Arrivants is a musical ensemble based off Montréal. The trio consists of Amichai Ben Shalev (bandoneon), Abdul-Wahab Kayyali (oud), and Hamin Honari (tombak, daf and percussion). The chemistry of these artists in music can be felt through the contrasting notes, counter melodies and layered instrumentalization. They built their homes in Montréal between the summers of 2019 and 2020 during the COVID 19 pandemic and during that time of uncertainty, they found comfort and familiarity in a new city. This resettlement experience influences their music very much. They draw inspiration from genres like Argentine Tango, Classical Arabic music, and classical Persian music. Their music in cinematic and forces us to visualize. If you are tuned in enough, the visuals are vivid and dynamic. Each song has its own universe that throws you into a river of emotions and dramatic eventualities of music. The intertwined melodies of various sweet instruments calms the mind down. The percussion work on each song is impeccable and full of amazing rhythms.

“Les Arrivants – Towards the Light, an album that embodies minimalism in musicality yet so impactful and expansive that you will immerse in the musical platter that the ensemble serves you.”
Art, when created while looking inside oneself, impacts the consumers to their core if they can relate with it. Les Arrivants created this album as a sequel of their first album called Home. The first album by this trio was about their experience of settling in Montréal and adjusting in a new city. Towards the Light is based around the theme of the continued urge to find comfort in a new place. It tells us about the desire to belong to a certain place or country. The album is full of vibes- some intense (like Apatride and Towards the Light) , some dramatic (like City of Ashes and Mohajer) and some joyful (like Hayrah and Piroozi). All in all the album is a great representation of the dysphoric experience of migrants in a country. The emotions that an outsider feels in a new place is translated into notes and melodies. The album has a deep story telling behind it open to be interpreted by the listeners.
