Clash Valian is conceived by the visionary Greg Merrell. The artistic persona is a smart blend of contemporary compositions, ethereal soundscapes, and gritty garage-rock anthems. The artist cannot be placed into the box of any single genre. Genres are mere modes for him to channelize his musical genius. His music is his own universe that he assembles with each track, representing all-and-nothing that catches his creative eye. Clash Valian is also known for the unique instrumentalization in his songs, ranging from the familiar to the enigmatic. Clash Valian’s recent album, “Degree of Freedom” is a staggering array of 21 self-penned and self-recorded songs. From haunting ethereal ballads to pulsating rhythms, the entire album is a wonderful crossover of mathematics, ideas, and emotions, springing from electric musical influences. There are more than 20 different instruments that are incorporated in these emotionally charged songs. Clash’s vocals raise the emotional quotient manifold such that the connect with the listeners is solidified strongly. In the track “Sirius”, a distant scream pierces the void yearning to go on uncharted paths whilst also carrying the ache od homesickness. In “Warplane”, we find the angst of being caught between the throes of conflict and the relentless specter of death. “607 Custom House” is a societal commentary. “Endocannabinoids” brings internal struggles to the fore. “Moonlander” is the tale of an astronaut losing touch with familiarity. In collaboration with the seasoned Tom Wade for mixing and co-production, Clash Valian flouts genre boundaries and invites the listeners into a realm of the accessibly eccentric. The diverse collection of tracks in this album ranges from raw, edgy to celestial-pop and laid-back lounge vibes. Each track has its own distinct mood driven by pulsating rhythms and searing instrumental riffs that ignite the senses. Amidst all the tumult that the album traces, there are moments of quiet introspection and delicate beauty, where shimmering melodies and haunting vocals transport the listeners to otherworldly realms of contemplation!
