We had a chance to interview GrayBeat and this is how it went-

  1. To what extent does hip-hop music go beyond rhymes and rhythms according to you?

There’s a very creative cultural perspective that drives it. For me, as a producer who is also a drummer, I love how it defines lyrical expression within a percussive sonic palette. I love how It finds a role for your body to enhance how we internalize its evocative lyrical messages. Plus, it endows you with such a compelling textures when you’re producing records. While I’ve loved and appreciated hip-hop my whole life, listening to it now is more exciting than ever.

  1. We can see excellent storytelling in your song. Is this based on a true story or derived from an underlying event?

It’s derived from this time I ran from the police actually, but very indirectly. That particular event was pretty innocent, since it was over absolutely nothing other than some guy who didn’t want me on his property. I was there for legitimate reasons, but I was young, on foot in the dark and in a new neighborhood. I basically figured it best not to have to answer any questions. So, I hid behind a vending machine inside a busy laundromat, hunched up against a giant evergreen, and even hid in someone’s garage by making clever conversation with the owner as they had just pulled in. They missed me with their spotlights at least a couple of those times, and none of the people in the crowded laundromat tattled on me lol.

  1. What was it like collaborating with Hookdiggy?

Amazingly smooth and easy. It really was a straightforward process full of wins. It was remarkable to me how open Hookdiggy was to all of my ideas. For me, I loved not having to do anything but creatively mix the vocal tracks he sent me. Conceptually, we kept it really simple and it just really let our creative spirits take over when the ball was in our respective court.

  1. Who are your top 5 Greatest Rappers of all time?

Missy Elliot
Yasin Bey
Chuck D

  1. How did you get introduced to music and what made you stick to it?

Through my family, friends and schools growing up. It’s been a big part of my life as far back as I can remember. I spent a lot of my life tortured over the prospect of being a musician, and I spent a lot of time denying myself a full embrace of my life’s true passion. But now, it feels like I was destined to follow this path.
