Embracing improvisation serves as a catalyst for infusing vitality into musical performances, a sentiment underscored by the insightful perspective of composer and cellist, Joanna Borrett.In the realm of her perception, composing had an almost mythical aura. A hiatus from playing for two decades followed, and upon her return, a yearning for greater freedom on the cello fueled her self-taught journey in playing by ear and improvisation. This newfound approach, combined with my string arranging ventures, ultimately paved the way for her unexpected transformation into a composer.

The first track, One Morning, creates an emotional vibe and is the start to a blissful experience for everyone who wants to lay down and listen to beautiful cello and piano creation by Joanna. Crafting an introduction with harmonics lent a tentative and uncertain quality to the music, followed by a serene, flowing tune. While understanding a composer’s perspective can be insightful, fostering one’s interpretative voice is paramount for any performer. Often, the composer’s desire is for the performer to explore their own ideas.
