Annakye, an Australian band formed in 2020, has had a significant impact in a short amount of time. When skilled singers Lucas and Camron entered the line up this year, they breathed new life into the band’s music, which had been stagnant since its foundation that year. Their breakthrough came in 2023 with the publication of the track “Too Far South,” which dominated the unregistered pop punk charts in the United States.

“Sensational modern rock anthem with dark, subtle undertones is OCEAN”
At the very beginning of Ocean’s opening, a sluggish, powerful riff from Annakye takes the listener’s attention, setting the stage for a lyric with dark, subtle undertones. Annakye comes together blasting furiously energising percussion, powerful flowing riffs, and considerably captivating vocal melody, gradually building to a catchy hard-hitting chorus that dramatically raises the song’s dynamics. Ocean’s structure is very intriguing; the song deftly transitions between sonic styles, sending the listener on a fun ride with its unexpected turns and infectious rhythmic drive. Ocean’s arrangement and dynamics include Annakye’s brilliant organic sound, putting up their multilayered melodies in a forceful stream with headbanging parts and sentimental ones.
Annakye’s songwriting and musicianship are on full display in Ocean; the band managed to craft a memorable melody without watering down their signature sound or mood, resulting in an accessible but powerful work that will likely find fans across genres and generations. I hope to hear more from Annakye in the future; you guys are awesome. Cheers!
