Edie Yvonne’s “Queen Bee” truly showcases the epitome of womanhood in all its radiant glory!

This audacious anthem pays homage to the unparalleled strength and power emanating from every woman. It serves as a beacon of enlightenment and self-assurance, encouraging all women to embrace and harness the unyielding force within themselves throughout their lifetimes. The song celebrates the strength and resilience of women, and their ability to overcome obstacles and challenge the status quo. By celebrating the power of women, the song encourages them to use their strength to create positive change in the world.

We had a chance to have a little conversation with Edie and here’s how it went-

1- I loved your track, each element seems perfectly in place to create the perfect vibe. What do you think keeps you going as a musician?

EY: In this phase of adolescence there are a lot of changes, emotions, and drama it seems. And I’m so lucky that I have an outlet for all of the ideas and feelings that come with being a teenager. I’m also fortunate that I get to work with the amazing young producers Nicky Swedin and Cormac Liotta. It is still magic to me when I send them music and they translate it in real time.

2- What is your biggest motivation for creating music that resonates with the masses?

EY: It is amazing when you tell a story and then hear back from a listener that it spoke to them or meant something to them. I wrote a song called Stain about my birthmark and going out for the first time after quarantine and being quickly reminded of stares and some peoples intolerance for difference. A mother of a baby with a vascular birthmark in Europe wrote me the most beautiful note that the song encouraged her and gave her confidence about her daughter’s future and ability to do anything she wants despite the challenges of others’ intolerance and health issues. It brought me to tears.

3- The way you carry the track is breathtaking. When did you realize that music is something that you want to do?

EY: I grew up around music when I was little. My Abuela is a Nicaraguan opera singer and we’ve always sang together since I was a toddler. I did music theater at YADA Youth Academy of Dramatic Arts – I did tens and tens of shows there – Chorus Line, Xanadu, Hairspray, Cats…..my love of being on stage definitely started there. During the pandemic when our shows were on zoom and I was performing from my room is when I pivoted to writing music.

4- There is always a turning point in an artist’s life when they decide music is something they’d like to fo full-time. What was that turning point in your life?

EY: I can think of two moments. One really was the pandemic. Kids like me were stuck at home, in their rooms and a creative outlet was really the only way to deal with the anxiety of that period of time. Also before the pandemic a producer Anna Bulbrook staged a music festival at what once was the Bootleg theater called Girlschool. Kristin Kontrol put together a group of kids to perform. I was lucky enough to be a part of it and I sang Fade Into You. I was hooked. Also incredible musicians like Karen O came out on stage and sang with us, it was a dream come true.

5- As a musician what you like to convey to our readers and your listeners through your music?

EY: I’m just so lucky there is a connection between the music and that one by one there is an audience for it. I’m so grateful for everyone who is supportive in this process – literally it is all of you helping to make my dreams come true! I do hope that songs like Queen Bee can brighten someones day. And I hope that a message of empathy, kindness, and compassion emanates from the work now and over time.
