It’s time to go bananas with “Gros Michel” by the Speak Easy Circus.

Hailing from the East End of Glasgow, Speak Easy Circus are an experimental indie/funk posse and you are bound to enjoy their music if you are a fan of the genre. Consisting of Jack Avison, Sax and Keyboard player Jon Wallace, drummer Frazer Laurie and Bass Guitarist Chatonda Ridley, the funky music of Speak Easy Circus is refreshing to hear and has a quirky style.

““Gros Michel” is beautifully put together song, the production quality is impeccable as all the instruments sound crisp with apt layering and spaces for every element.”

From the very beginning, the song gives off a lot of old school funk vibes which is rare these days. The songs starts with a speech praising bananas, the funky guitar intro kicks in and the drums follow with an amazing saxophone groove layered along with a crazy bass line. The vocals kick in with a bang, pointing out benefits of bananas and consuming breakfast in pyjamas. The starts off with a positive note but as we go further it starts revealing the darkness. The song ends with a stunning chromatic, jazzy, blues, distorted kind of guitar solo and in the end the saxophone brings in everything together with a long note.

To sum it up, “Gros Michel” is beautifully put together song, the production quality is impeccable as all the instruments sound crisp with apt layering and spaces for every element. Definitely give it a spin if you are a fan of indie/funk/rock.
