CS Hellmann “Up Til Dawn” is a perfect companion for those long sleepless nights.

Nashville-based songwriter CS Hellmann is a guitar savant. His work has heavy influence of early 90s alt-rock. Growing up Hellmann was inspired by the likes of Jimi Hendrix, Jimmy Page, David Gilmour, and Stevie Ray Vaughan. CS started out on piano, but later inclined towards guitar. Despite being naturally left handed, he learned to play guitar on the right hand because those were the only ones that were available at the time. After performing for 3 years in Chicago, not realising he was battling mental health issues at the time, he moved to Nashville with no intention of playing music again, it was a friend’s demise that Hellmann started writing again.

“Hellmann excels at taking fearful and angry lyrics and adding upbeat music to it in order to create masterpieces that must be witnessed by all.”

The guitar licks in the intro are stunning and showcase the influence of great alt-rock guitarists from Hellmann’s earlier years. The music throughout is upbeat and has a edgy vibe to it. The lyrics are emotionally charged and have an honest intimacy about them which is proof that it comes from a sincere place. The writer’s frustration and anxiety are impeccably projected through this track. The artist’s pain of not being able to sleep is evident in his heartfelt vocals. The guitar solo towards the end is perhaps the best thing I have ever heard. Hellmann excels at taking fearful and angry lyrics and adding upbeat music to it in order to create masterpieces that must be witnessed by all.
