The Island – part one by Birds are better: The album delivers more than the expectation that it had set.

I had the privilege of reviewing the opening track of this album “Seven in the morning” ahead of the album’s release, and I can now say that Stian Fjelldal has exceeded the expectations that I had from the album after listening to “Seven in the morning”.

“Stian’s voice is sincere that you can sense the pain in them, and can’t help but relate, empathise and lose yourself in his music.”

“Nothing is Real When I’m Away for you” has to be my personal favourite from the album, it starts slow but it’s a complete emotional rollercoaster, as the song quickly picks up pace and then slows down in the middle, only to speed up again, Stian’s lyrics are as always emotive and genuine. The title track “The Island” opens with ethereal piano tunes and ends with hypnotising acoustic guitar, but the real magic happens when Stian serenades us with his euphoric voice and dreamy lyrics. “Oh mother” is perhaps the most emotional track that I have heard in a long time, Stian’s voice is sincere that you can sense the pain in them, and can’t help but relate, empathise and lose yourself in his music.

Honestly I can’t wait for the second instalment of The islands. Stian is a promising artist and has a lot to offer, give this album a spin right and be mesmerised by the haunting vocals and soulful instrumentation of Birds are better.
