Hailing from Texas Rusty Reid is an American singer-songwriter, who’s currently based in Seattle. He fuses multiple genres (indie folk-pop-country-rock) in his music. His most recent album “Bayou line” is the third album in his discography, it’s a collection of old Houston songs, freshly recorded with with world-class players. “Bayou line” is a diverse album with influences drawn from country-rock and pop, which portray Rusty’s skills as songwriter.
Corner of my mind is the opening track of Rusty Reid’s album “Bayou line” which takes you on a nostalgic journey about a person leaving an everlasting impression on you, and no matter how much time has passed, the memories will always flash and they’ll always stay stuck in the “corner of your mind”. The moment you hit play you are welcomed with smooth guitar riffs which give away the Country roots of the song. And as Rusty Reid’s soothing vocals kick in you can’t help but shake your head to it.

“Rusty Reid’s songs give off a very retro and vintage vibe, his lyrics are simple yet profound which make the listening experience blissful, smooth and heavenly.“
The lyrics in the first half of the song “I often start to think of you, What occupies your time. Cause to me you’re ever present, In the Corner of My Mind” set the tone for the song as it explores how we often reminisce about the one with whom it didn’t work out with, out of nowhere as the memories often haunt us to this day. No matter how old the flame was, they stay fresh in our head.
The beautiful melody and the subtle drum beats accompany Rusty’s soothing vocals and carry you through the song softly, creating an euphoric listening experience. Rusty’s craftsmanship is commendable as he seamlessly blends genres, along with the top-notch production quality, Rusty’s voice is crystal clear which will pierce right through your mind and not just get stuck in your head but also your heart.
The last lines “In everything in this old world, The trick is in the timing. But I can’t wait forever, For the one who’s truly kind Even one so present in the Corner of My Mind” are perhaps my favourite as they portray that the world doesn’t stop for anyone and often even when everything is right, timing messes things up. This was the most relatable part for me. And what Rusty says about not waiting forever, even though that person is impossible to forget because waiting is impractical is the hard pill to swallow that gives this song and the listener the perfect closure it needs.
Rusty Reid’s songs give off a very retro and vintage vibe, his lyrics are simple yet profound which make the listening experience blissful, smooth and heavenly. Rusty’s songs are relatable and will have you vibing in no time. Give this song a spin right away and lose yourself to the haunting vocals of Rusty Reid, and go down the memory of the one that still lingers in your head to this day.
