MAL was a member of underground, hard rocking, unusual and strange hitmakers/songwriters and national touring act DING MAO. He was also the drummer for the well-known “Love Core” hard rock band Boy Hits Car, as well as a songwriter/performer from S.O.B., Radio Free America, and Blackcast. MAL is composed of Kristopher Jung (vocals/guitar), Peter Hollywood (bass), and Brendan Reynolds (drums). They came together to write, perform, and record for their amusement and passion. They did it for fun and got gigs.

I recently heard this banger titled ‘Besides’ by MAL. Its portrayal of a love song/break-up song makes it seem like a love song, but it’s really a social commentary on political divisions. It is an unusual arrangement that takes you on a journey instead of giving you the expected. A song like this fits everywhere – intimate, hard, soft, crazy!

Overall, ‘Besides’ is a suitable fit for rock fans. A magnificent production with smartly written lyrics and a bit harsh on some segments yet it is worth a listen!
