Ben Kelly, an alternative R&B crooner, debuted in January 2023 after spending years daydreaming about a career in music but never putting pen to paper. He released a flurry of singles during the month, including ‘You & Me’, ‘With Me’, and ‘Change’. ‘Everything You Wanted’ and ‘Clingy’ were added to his catalogue in February, and ‘Senses’ and ‘Return to You’ were added in March. He is a true East Coast kid from Connecticut, although he currently makes his home in Washington, DC. Ben’s taste in music is varied, but his songs frequently combine modern alternative R&B with vintage soul music.

Ben Kelly’s “Senses” is a really distinctive R&B song. His production isn’t necessarily what you’d anticipate from the conventional neo-soul tune, but his melodies are soulful, his chord choices are smooth, and his vocals are seductive. Many of the instrumental motifs are carried by bit-crushed synth lines, giving the song a hint of experimental, lo-fi goodness. Not to mention, the guitar playing absolutely exudes calmness. You couldn’t do better than “Senses” if you enjoy R&B and would be willing to attempt something a little out of the ordinary.
Make sure to listen to Ben Kelly! You’ll be so glad you did. “Senses” will either make you feel more at ease or inspire some thought. However, Ben Kelly’s musicality is evident throughout the entire song.
